It is very likely that you have considered selling in this hot sellers’ market. But the truth is, the timing is not quite right for you. Or perhaps COVID factors affected your original plan. If you decide you are staying put for now, there are things you can do to be ready for a future sale.
Spend your efforts on getting your home ready. It is okay to start simple! Consider going through the closets first. Or go room by room. Start clearing out any items that you really don’t use. If you have an idea of what you will move into or where, you can determine how much to keep and how much to donate or discard.
Get advice from Realtors. Now is a good time to get a sense of your home in today’s market. Is it comparable? Are there things you can do, small or large, to better position your home?
Assess Condition. Really take a hard look at your home. Is the back deck a hazard? Could you use a handrail on the front stairs? Is there a perpetual leak in the shower? Make a list. Even something as simple as a new front door knob can make a huge difference on presenting your home in its best light.
Major Remodeling. Before starting any major remodeling, consider the return on that investment. The project you considered a dream come true may not improve the sale of your home or even add more to your bottom line.
There are countless resources out there to help paint, repair, stage, organize, pack, clear out and clean your home. Take this time to explore your options and make the best choice for you and your home.
In the meantime, enjoy your home and everything you love about it!
