Temperatures on the rise!? Let’s face it, when it gets this warm, it is hard to keep cool! And likely, doing your usual outdoor activities is ill-advised. What about a change of pace as we head into a hot weekend and the month of August! Here are some ideas to get you started!

  1. Check out the library! Libraries are an excellent way to get out, stay cool, and most of the events are free! Yes, there are book-related events, storytelling, poetry readings. But did you know you can take part in a Lego competition, learn a craft, or join others in a new activity each week?
  2. Road trip to a museum. From Artwork to Small Engine design, there are exhibits for all ages and interests. Many museums also have beautiful, shaded areas outside, benches with water fountains and more. There are so many things to explore and learn, all while staying cool!
  3. Baby Pools and Sprinklers! Who says these are just for kids?! Who would notice if you put out the sprinkler and ran through by “accident?” Maybe even supply your friends with water shooters next time they come over! Summer is not complete unless you’re splashin’ around!
  4. Go Jump in a Lake! I mean that in the nicest, coolest way ????
  5. Take in a movie! Seek out a theatre that replays the classics at a discounted price. When we were kids, there was nothing like seeing a double header to stay cool on a hot day!
  6. That’s right. Stop moving. Pour a cold beverage. And stop moving for a while.

Enjoy your ‘cool’ excursions!  Happy Summer!
