The Witches Crook, built slanted with reason,
A fitting tale for this Halloween season.
For while you are out dressing up as ghosts,
Somewhere a witch is reading this post.
She knows that soon you’ll be off your guard,
While greeting trick or treaters in your yard.
She will be out on Halloween night,
Looking for dark places without any light.
She is hoping to ‘stop in’ and will descend
Down your home’s chimney – unless there’s a bend.
Legend says a witch can only fly in straight lines,
Stories grow more believable through time!
A builder would correct you – it’s not about a witch!
It was a way to match a chimney with the roof’s perfect pitch.
A mason built the chimney to bend, with great care
But is that really true? Or should you beware?
