All of the Homecoming events will start on Friday October 2nd. To get all of the students and staff on their feet and ready, there’s a Pep Fest planned for Friday afternoom at 2:15 pm in the MWHS gym. Before the big game kickoff at 7 p.m., there’s the annual parade, starting at 5 p.m. The parade begins at Hilltop Primary School and ends at the high school parking lot. Floats in the parade include sports teams, local businesses, the Mound Westonka Pep Band and many more. Candy, T-shirts and more items will be thrown out. It’s a great community event for the whole family to come out to watch and enjoy.
The mini carnival is back this year to get the little White Hawks and their families excited with bouncy houses, cotton candy and fun for everyone! The junk car is making another appearance this year and, for only $1, you can take a whack at it. Tailgating is encouraged to spend time with friends and get a full stomach before the big game. There will be hot dogs, chips, water and “touchdown towels” for sale, and Mark Lee will be selling fish and chips, Westonka corn dogs and french fries from his food truck. You are also invited to bring your own pre-game snacks. The entire community is invited to take part in the tailgating and other festivities.
This year’s football team faces off in a brand new division, enabling the White Hawks to play never-before-seen teams. Haddorff Field better be stacked full with hollering fans and outstanding Mound Westonka pride at 7 p.m. as the football boys take on Concordia Academy of Bloomington.
The grand week ends with a semi-formal dance on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 8 to 11 p.m. The dance is going to be outside in the MWHS courtyard, with many lights and lanterns to give it a special glow. Students in grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to come ready to dance and have lots of fun. Presale tickets are $8 or $10, which includes a Super Fan T-shirt, during Homecoming Week. Tickets at the door are $10.
Student Senate has been hard at work to make this the best week yet for the community, staff and students of Westonka Public Schools, so they hope you participate and take in all of the Homecoming fun!
